Mike blinks, his eyes trailing down, to the flares on his chest. Nancy had given them to him earlier, due to his complaint about her hoarding all the firepower.
A weapon that draws attention like no other, designed to pinpoint someone's location.
Designed to be followed.
'See how you're leading us here? You're guiding the party.'
The words are in the back of his mind, Will's voice clear in his skull.
He needs to be the one to do it. Mike, leading the party.

Summary
"Dream a little dream of me..."
Famed ghost hunters Lucas Sinclair and Dustin Henderson - along with their camerawoman Max Mayfield and girl-in-the-chair Erica Sinclair - head to Hawkins on their latest adventure, to check out the supposedly haunted Creel house. Abandoned since the early nineties, Hawkins presents a challenge none of the four have ever seen, especially as the ghost of a young man appears, explaining he cannot cross over until he can reunite with his lost husband.
Who was Mike Wheeler when he was alive? What happened to Will Byers and Jane Hopper? What really happened in Hawkins for it to become such a ghost town? And how will it affect Lucas, Dustin, and Max discovering the secrets of a place so full of fear and pain when they have their own demons?

That was Mike. He was always so present, it drove her crazy. Ever since Nancy had gotten picked up from her grandparent’s house and her mom passed back a little roll of blankets, he was there. Sprawled over the entire couch, stealing her quarters, interrupting all of Nancy’s phone calls.
And he never would be again."
Or, as all great authors do, Mike Wheeler published a masterpiece or two and killed himself on November 6th, 1997. Nancy is left with his Wikipedia page and a Christmas Eve of grief and anger.

Summary
Everything intentionally hurt him, but nobody needed to know that. He was simply a blunt, rude soul. He doesn’t accept Max into the party and he tells his best friend, who always got called slurs, that it wasn’t his fault he didn’t like girls. If he calls Nancy an asshole or tells Lucas to fuck off, nobody bats an eyelid, right? It’s just Mike Wheeler! Completely emotionally unavailable, let him get on with it, right?
Right.
And then Will crawled through his window a few days ago and told him that he felt like he was losing him, every aspect of him, that he wasn’t himself anymore in complete tears and all Mike could do was tell him that he was right here and he was still him.
He knew Will was right.

When Will is taken back into the Upside Down, Mike doesn't hesitate to follow. He knows the risks, but he still isn't prepared for the moment when Vecna sets his sights on a new victim.
When Will awakens to find Mike in the clutches of Vecna's curse, he does everything in his power to rescue him. Mike is left with some wounds that need tending to.
