Dad. Bailu wished that things were different. That she was a normal child and Dan Heng was her father.
She didn't dare say it to his face though. Then she met a curious boy who understood her and flipped her world upside down.

Shortly after Dan Heng met with Bailu in person, the two of them become pretty close "texting buddies". Bailu enlists Dan Heng to act as some sort of Jing Yuan wrangler, asking him to make sure Jing Yuan is staying put for his recovery. Plenty of shenanigans ensue with Sushang acting as an escort. Everyone's just in a situation, of sorts.

Dan Heng shakes his head, “Anyway, you’re ignoring Bailu’s orders again. I heard your back crack, by the way.”
“What? Did you now? Cloud Knight… ahh—”
“It’s Sushang,” Dan Heng adds quickly.
“Right, Sushang. Did you hear my back crack?” Jing Yuan asks with an expectant smile.

“I already have measures in place to protect Bailu,” Jing Yuan quietly adds. “Regardless of her titles or importance amongst the Vidyadhara, Bailu is a citizen of the Luofu. We will guard her as one of our own.”
He tilts his head. “However, if it would assure you to see with your own eyes that the Alchemy Commission remains a safe harbour for Bailu, then you shouldn’t let public sentiment hold you back.”
Dan Heng straightens his shoulders. “My concern is for Bailu. As for myself, I’ve already faced hostility from numerous parties. It’s hardly anything new.”
“Well, my presence should mitigate any further backlash,” Jing Yuan says, deceptively light, his pleasant expression belying the undercurrent of protectiveness in his words. “After all, you too are a free citizen of the Luofu.”
(Although the Express needs him, Dan Heng can't help worrying; he'd just fought off numerous attempts on Bailu’s life, and then there's Jing Yuan, who despite coming to their rescue is still nursing injuries from the battle with Phantylia.
Bailu and Jing Yuan help put those worries to rest in their own ways.

Summary
Fontaine is the nation of justice, but Navia knows too well the flaws of justice which is enforced at the point of a sword. It is her job to get justice for those who are overlooked as the president of the once-great organization Spina di Rosula. But when a case involving a dead dockworker comes across her desk, she finds herself being handed a new lead on the people who had framed her father, leading to his death by the sword of Navia's childhood best friend Clorinde. However, Navia isn't the only person who is investigating this case, and soon enough she comes face-to-face with Clorinde for the first time in five years. Navia must now decide what Clorinde means to her as the two of them work together to solve the case. Is Clorinde an old childhood friend, a sword who serves the Trial Court, or something else entirely? And even if she comes to a conclusion, would Clorinde feel the same way?
