Ashton should have a million other things to think about, but they can't get their mind off Orym.
When they bed down for the night after a long day's travel, Ashton expects to pass the fuck out, but it turns out Orym's thoughts have been going the same direction theirs have been, and he's not afraid to start shit even while they're in earshot of anybody sitting around the campfire.

The Hells seem to be trapped in a cycle of tragedy and triumph, and given that they're sailing the Silver Sun away from their most recent catastrophic loss, Ashton figures they're probably on the upswing.
It should be the perfect time for them to make another pass at Orym, but as with everything in Ashton Greymoore's goddamn life, there are several roadblocks. One: Ashton told Orym to make the next move. Two: Fearne shares Orym's bedroom and doesn't really get the purpose of alone time. Three: the airship just got attacked by a chimera.
Actually, given how fucking sexy Ashton is while fighting big, three-headed monsters, they can turn that last one into an advantage.

Summary
Things have been a living nightmare since the Hells left Bassuras, and Ashton just made the mistake of inviting more nightmares into their own head. Sure, Imogen and Letters were only trying to help, but Ashton's stuck with a nosebleed, a dead friend, and a sprig of lavender, which smells terrible.
Somehow, they end up talking it through with Orym. It's like a whole list of shit Ashton isn't good at: comforting people, dealing with others' trauma, confronting their own anxieties, being honest about their feelings? Fucking awful.
You know what they are good at? Mouth stuff. They should just do that instead.

It's a little weird how Essek still seems to think this is just a science experiment, while fully aware of, and talking about, the fact that last time, Ashton came in their pants.
Caleb, on the other hand, is performing an experiment of his own.
