“Do you—” Futaba starts to offer, but her voice fails.
Sumire’s still looking at her expectantly.
Futaba awkwardly waggles her hand in the scant space between them. “Would it help if you… held my hand?”
For Futaba, returning to the true reality is a daunting prospect — she and Sumire have that in common. It's hard to drag her out of the tar pit when they're both sinking in it.

The other has her brain rearing back, like a horse refusing a jump. It’s a teddy bear: pale blue, with a frilly white ribbon tied around its neck.
Some time after the events at Hazakura Temple, Maya delivers to Franziska a letter sealed with a heart-shaped sticker. Franziska handles this the same way she handles everything life throws at her: with class, poise, and careful emotional distance.

“Tell me about it,” Jester requests, with enough solemnity to give Beau the distinct impression that this is the real reason she wanted to talk. “Please?”

Yoshizawa fires off a volley of bless attacks. The magic loses its form and splinters away, leaving Kurusu with little more than a tear in her tailcoat.
“Good,” Kurusu praises, and fires a bullet that clips Yoshizawa in the calf. “But you can’t assume your attacks will knock your assailant off-balance. Don’t let yourself get overconfident.”
Hidden in the shadows, Akechi rolls her eyes. That’s pretty fucking rich, coming from her.
Akechi is still owed a rematch. Kurusu, despite accepting her glove, has found a new and frivolous way to waste her time.

All of Dawn's crushes had at one point been obsessed with Buffy. Not that Xander went anywhere with her despite trying a lot, but, like, Dawn had been head over heels for Spike and he’d been boinking Buffy the whole time.
And even when it was some random high school boy like RJ, Buffy still won! Which, massive ew. Couldn’t the jacket have filtered for age? And sexual orientation also, now that she was thinking about it.
This time, though, there’s no way Buffy can steal her crush, for a few reasons:
1. High schooler. And Dawn is pretty sure this crush doesn’t have any magically enhanced pieces of clothing, so hopefully there’s not going to be a repeat of those unfortunate events.
2. She’s so not telling Buffy about it. It’ll be her own, private secret that won’t get messed up by all the Chosen One stuff. Shoot, she might’ve just jinxed it.
3. Girl. The crush is a girl, and Buffy’s not like that.
Or: Dawn has a crush on a girl, and she opens up to Willow. Because Buffy can't relate. Right?
