Newly-graduated scribe Lieutenant Violet Sorrengail was expecting something a little more dramatic for her first field assignment than the Aretian library. She knows the situation with Tyrrendor is complicated and not entirely stable, especially since the duke announced his son's betrothal to a Poromish princess, but officially she's just here to study and translate Tyrrish and Krovlan folklore as a favor to Duke Riorson. The duke's son seems far more interested in her research than he is in his own upcoming wedding, though, and she's realizing there's more to this research than she expected.

“You know who’s pretty good at physics?” Xaden hitched his pant legs up an inch to sit back down on his rock. “Garrick.” Imogen fumbled the throw at the sound of Garrick’s name, her heart frustratingly skipping against her chest when it should have been her rock skipping instead. “Something going on between the two of you?”Imogen definitely, probably, hopefully doesn’t hate him, but Garrick’s not convinced of that as fact until Xaden can undeniably confirm it.
