“Erm… hello, everyone!” said Adrienne’s voice. It was a lot gentler than Chloé’s. “I’m… Adrienne Agreste, daughter of Gabriel Agreste. I’ve only been homeschooled before, but this year Nathalie convinced my father to let me go to a normal school.”
The whispering and muttering only increased. But Adrienne either didn’t notice, or she was trying to ignore it.
“I, um… my father is very rich, but I don’t want you guys to treat me any different from how you’d treat anyone else. Okay? I want to just be a normal girl, just the same as any of your other classmates.”
There was a moment where nobody said anything that was audible. Then Alix spoke up to say, “The same as just one very specific classmate, I think.”

She dropped her gaze and shuffled her feet, but the worst was over and she could see this through. Taking her courage in both hands, she finished. “A-and I wanted to know if you maybe wanted to g-go out with me some time. When you’re free. Just us. Like a date?”
She felt the desire to prattle all but tear at her throat, and clamped her mouth and then her eyes shut tight, willing the babble back, waiting for the blow.
A love confession gets rejected, leading to a reveal - and for a while there it feels like everything starts unraveling.
