Summary
The city was guarded by a monster.
No one knew where it came from, or what it truly was.
But after a few "sightings", a few things were clear: it only targeted criminals, never the innocent. It seemed very protective of children.
Everyone, from the police to the civilians, decided it was best to leave the creature alone. After all, it seemed more than willing to leave them be if they left it be.
Crime began to dry up as the years passed; criminals became more cautious knowing a shadow could descend on them any minute.
After over ten years of protection, the people of Gotham believed that their "Shadow Bat" was truly benign.
That is, until the day the orphaned acrobat disappeared...
