So, this was never actually meant to become a series, but then there were scenes I didn't get to do, and backstories I wanted to elaborate on, so now in addition to the story, there are a series of deleted scenes and prequels.
So, in a world where laws have passed allowing for the keeping of genetically engineered human beings as pets, they're usually own by the wealthy, famous, and influential. Also by one vice cop who feels super guilty about it. Dani needed a pet for an undercover operation and after two bad homes, Malcolm really just wanted somewhere safe. Neither of them planned on falling in love. Meanwhile the broker Dani bought Malcolm from is secretly smuggling pets to freedom and her adopted daughter just joined a group of fanatics.
