Summary
Being in the Garrison, and learning under Shiro gave her something to work towards, a goal. And god, did that goal feel like a shining beacon in the shit pit called her life.
Then, Shiro went missing.
And then she, along with some random people, got shot into space.

"Keira didn’t do shit to hurt or even to make Lana like her! It doesn’t matter that Keira always looks after her on the battlefield, or brings an extra blanket to the lounge when Lana complains that Altean castles are too cold. Or that she somehow knows wherever Lana’s feeling too homesick and asks Hunk to make space garlic knots, or the fact that in group training Keira’s always the one to ask for target practice when she knows that it’s Lana’s favorite type of training to do.
This crush came out of nowhere! It’s like instead of slowly dripping down water onto Lana they just completely water boarded her into the ocean. Like a bug that crawled all around her until biting her in the face! She doesn’t even know when she first got it, just that at some point it arrived and now she has to deal with it."

Summary
Keith has always known he’s different.
That part is old news. He made peace with it a long time ago, somewhere between flunking out of the Garrison and discovering he was half-Galra. Compared to that, being a little awkward, a little out of place, barely even registers.
What does not make sense is the rest of it. Because at no point during the rebuilding of the universe, the formation of the Coalition, or his promotion to Blade Leader did anyone sit him down and 'say, hey, by the way, you got taller!'.
If he had been better at it, he might have realized sooner that he’d had some sort of growth spurt.
The first one to notice it was Pidge.

"So, you’re not interested in anyone currently, right?” Lance barrels on, because fuck Keith, apparently. “That’s okay! Because we’re gonna find a male species from one of these planets for you! But first, we have to figure out your type, and then we’ll go from there.”
“We’re not doing that,” Keith mutters.
“Oh, we definitely are,” Lance replies, absolutely thrilled and, apparently, suicidal. “It’s happening! It’s happening. Don’t fight it, Keith,” he says, as though Keith isn’t going to fight this kicking and screaming all the way. “I’m gonna be the best wingman you never wanted."
Lance takes it upon himself to be Keith’s personal wingman the moment he finds out he’s into guys.
The rose? They have the entire universe to find Keith a boyfriend, and so, not all hope is lost.
The thorn? Keith’s only interested in one guy and it’s the idiot dragging him into this matchmaking hell.
