Summary
“I will not be made a spectacle of,” Curufin forced out, his voice shaking with fury and embarrassment. For a moment it looked as if he might say more, but then he turned and strode from the dining room, shoulders stiff and fists clenched at his sides, almost running.
Celegorm was on his feet at once. “I’ll go,” he said.
Maedhros rose more slowly, calm but determined. “No, I will.”
“Sit down, both of you,” Fëanor said, trying to ignore the doubt in their eyes as they turned to look at him. He would be lying if he said it did not sting. “I’m his father. I’ll handle this.”

When a dinner revelation leaves Curufin shaken and humiliated, Fëanor resolves to respond with love and understanding.
And he does – until a brilliant idea occurs to him, and the evening takes an altogether different turn.

“I thought he would come,” he whispers, barely audible.
Lalwen cradles the back of his head with one hand, stroking his hair like she did when he was small. “I know.”
“I thought–” His voice cracks, and he doesn’t finish the sentence.
But Lalwen hears it all the same, as clearly as if he’d said it out loud: I thought he loved me.

Maitimo hides it a little better, but his love for Findekáno is easy to see as well, at least to those who know him and care to look.And Lalwen… Lalwen has been looking for a long time.
