While investigating the origins of the mysterious affliction that's decaying Leon from the outside in, he finds his lead in a demented Umbrella researcher who's obsessed with not only the evolutionary prospects of the T-Virus, but also a random F.B.I. Agent with too much anxiety to be surviving the end of the world. Stuck in a mansion disguised as a chronic care center that looks way too much like a certain police department, Leon follows his lead deeper into the Ozarks, unwillingly brought to the beginning of it all.
And at the other side of the building is Chris Redfield, following a lead his team discovered concerning Oswell E. Spencer's final research, and mentions of an ARK. He stumbles across the F.B.I. Agent that he also agrees should not be here, and they work their way through the same manor, hoping to rescue a trapped, blind girl. But he does need to go and find his boyfriend, because the nightmares that drive Eddie out of bed, rather than straight into Steve’s arms?
Those are always the worst of them. Those are always the ones that scream loudest with pure loss.

“I’m dead weight.”
Eddie’s voice is so tiny, it almost undercuts his resolve. Almost.
But it’s a fucking fact, so his useless resolve doesn’t really matter either way, which is kind of a comfort.
Until Eddie blinks, and between lashes fluttering: Steve’s in his face. Leaning over him, caging him in not with his arms so much as the heat of him, the weight of his presence more than any part of them touching.
And those fucking eyes; stars could be born inside them.
Eddie just wishes he deserved a future where he’d get to watch a whole new one burst into life, where he’d deserve that kind of privilege—
But he wasn’t exaggerating. He is dead fucking weig—
“I know what it feels like when you’re the closest you’re ever gonna fucking get to dead weight,” Steve somehow bites out so sharp while sounding so level, just stating facts like his eyes aren’t on fucking fire:
“This is nothing like that.”

Summary
Steve never minded living in Eddie’s shadow. He liked the chaos, the noise, the way Eddie looked like he might catch fire on stage at any second. What he minded, though he’d never admit it out loud, were the songs. Every crowd screamed Eddie’s words back at him, but none of them were for Steve. Not the angry anthems, not the messy love songs, not even the ballads that left reporters breathless.
Steve told himself it didn’t matter. He didn’t need the spotlight, didn’t need Eddie to spell his name in lyrics. He just needed Eddie to come back to him when the lights went down.
But five songs in, after years of motel rooms, arenas, fights, and backstage kisses that tasted like smoke and blood, Eddie finally wrote the one that was.
And Steve wasn’t sure his heart could take it.

“What, you don’t have shit for first aid at home?” And even though Eddie’s lilting voice was sort of joking, he looked straight through Steve in a way that made Steve suddenly certain that Eddie was not going to let this go.
Steve let out a broken laugh and rested his head back against the car door, closing his eyes again instead of imagining what it might be like to live in a house that wasn’t completely haunted. He considered just blowing it off and ignoring Eddie, but he was already trying to ignore the methodic dripping from one of the cuts on his chest that had split open earlier. It wouldn’t stop sticking everywhere and it felt like a goddamn nightmare on top of the dried blood that wouldn’t stop flaking off his skin.
“No way, Munson. Not a chance in hell.”

Eddie’s joked about it before; he’d called it “sibling telepathy” when Dustin had silently communicated his popcorn order at the movies, and he’d nudged Steve in the ribs when Steve’s nose wrinkled meaning Gross, dude. Then Steve had huffed a laugh, nudging Dustin back. Okay, okay. I’ll pay for it, you little shit.
But Eddie gets Steve, too, Dustin thinks; that’s why he called him. And yeah, it’s different than the way Dustin understands Steve, but it’s significant enough for Eddie to make the cut of Steve Harrington Interpreters in Dustin’s mind.

But then Eddie saw a whole pile of kids get in Harrington’s car, and he overheard Nancy Wheeler say that “Steve was babysitting,” and that image didn’t even remotely align with anything Eddie knew about King Steve “The Hair” Harrington, but he figured he didn’t know much, anyway, and it wasn’t any of his business, when it came down to it.
Eddie thought so little of it, in fact, that he had almost forgotten that Max had apparently been babysat by one Steve Harrington. That is, until Steve Harrington started showing up at the trailer park, picking up Max and driving away, and then Eddie wouldn’t see Max at home again for days on end.
Eddie didn’t know much about babysitting, but he was pretty sure the gigs were more of an hourly thing.

Mostly canon-compliant, with a few speculations and events to fill some gaps (it’s a crime that there’s basically nothing after you romance them). Some lines are reused from different endings/choices bc why not. Reader is a bit mentally drained.
