Summary
Carlos and Cecil go to the desert other-world to meet Kevin's husband to be. They learn that Charles is Carlos' double, and Carlos tries to maim him. Then they learn that Charles and Cecil knew each other when they were 19.
Carlos also learns that there was some horrible miscommunication between him and Cecil, and that Cecil believed that he and Kevin had a minor thing while he was in the DOW for those ten years. Kevin only hears that he could have had the both of them, somehow.

Summary
Desert Bluffs Community Radio is hosting its annual pledge drive. In past years, DBCR’s pledge drive had never needed anywhere near the 24 hours to get the funds needed to keep operating. In past years, Kevin had done the whole 24 hours on his own and never felt an inkling of fear or dread that anything would be different.
Things were no longer as simple as they used to be. As with so many other things, Strexcorp had ruined this, too. They might not have been able to get their hands on his station yet, but they'd bought out plenty of the other small businesses and the unemployment rate in Desert Bluffs was at an all time high. The community could no longer come together to help.
Kevin is staring down the barrel of a Strexcorp take-over, up until his double comes in and buys them out.

“Is that supposed to happen?” Wilson questions, shaking his hand.
“…YES—“ WX starts to speak again, but gets cut off by their voice warbling and a spark flying from the panel on their chest. Wilson frowns.
“That’s not right,” he says, crossing his arms. “I think you got water in your system.”
“I DID NOT. YOU ORGANICS ARE SO DRAMATIC.” WX mocks him. “I SAID I AM FINE.” They manage to get themselves onto their feet, but their hands are twitching at their sides. Wilson narrows his eyes at them.
“No, you’re not.” He insists. “I can see you sparking, WX.”
WX hides their hand behind their back, which has a spark jumping from it occasionally.

Summary
It almost scares him a bit, with how fast their mood changed. He had almost expected them to jump in after him just to try and wrangle him. Instead, they basically just.. stormed off. Willingly admired defeat.
He knows WX isn’t leaving because they’re suddenly sick of him, he’s done much more annoying things around them than lick dirt and they still found excuses to follow him around, and if they were, he would definitely be hearing about it..
There must be another reason for such an early dismissal.

“In other news, a new man came into town today.” Kevin couldn’t help his grin, but only Vanessa could see it, so that was alright. “Who is he? What does he want from us? Why his perfect and beautiful smile? Why his perfect and beautiful teeth? Teeth like a Steinway…”
Kevin glanced at his phone as it lit up with a new message. Carlos had sent him an emoji of a person in a labcoat and goggles giving a thumbs down. Rachel, one of the scientists sharing the camper with him, also sent a text, but hers was an image of Carlos’ head in his hands. His ears were noticeably red. Carlos was just too cute.
Vanessa knocked on the window of the control booth, and Kevin mouthed an apology at her for getting off track.
“He says he is a scientist. Well, we have all been scientists at one point or another in our lives. But why now? Why here? And just what does he plan to do with all those beakers and humming electrical instruments in that camper?”

‘You don’t have a body?’
“Nope,” the Narrator affirms, letting the P pop. “If you were expecting an actual kiss, I’ll have to sorely disappoint you.”
Stanley puts his hand to his chin and his eyes glaze over a little, like he’s thinking. The Narrator could just listen in if he so desired, if Stanley’s not actively blocking him out, but he’s a little curious to see what Stanley will come up with on his own. Not that he has high expectations. Stanley’s ideas usually border on the absurd or insane.
Stanley taps his finger to his chin.
‘I’ve got some ideas I’d like to try.’
The Narrator lets out another long-suffering sigh. Which is well-earned, since he’s done nothing but suffer since the day they started this little game of theirs.
“By all means, do your best to surprise me.”
Stanley grins. Challenge accepted.
Or: Stanley wants to kiss the Narrator. Seeing as the Narrator isn't human, and thus doesn't have a body, they have to rely on more unconventional means.

“Kevin, come back!”
Kevin knew this was a good hiding spot. He had spotted it the moment he had came into the house and stored it away in his head. It was just right between the dryer and the wall, behind the laundry basket and tucked away like a little fox in his den.
His lips betrayed him, trying to force into a smile – or maybe force out of a smile. He didn’t know which was wrong anymore, and Carlos would tell him to calm down and think about this but he couldn’t. He just couldn’t, alright? He couldn’t change, couldn’t heal, couldn’t get better. All he’d do was hurt those he cared about and smile until it didn’t bother him.
He felt tears come to his eyes and he furiously wiped them away because he didn’t cry unless he was regressed and he didn’t need- didn’t want to be regressed right now because then Cecil and Carlos would find him and be so nice to him (nicer than he deserved) and tell him everything was okay and that wasn’t true because it just wasn’t.
The day had started off so well, too.

Kevin becomes a little fox for a bit. This has unintended concequences.

Sometimes, dear listeners, all it takes is that final straw for the camel to decide that it’s had enough and the next thing you know you’re sobbing into your evil double’s shoulder. These things happen.

“What does it mean?”
“It means-” Carlos faltered. He blinked once, twice, and then looked away, rubbing the back of his neck. “Well, something not good. Cecil never told me the exact meaning, which probably means it’s really bad.”
(part of my Moodring verse, where Cecil and Kevin meet first and have a rather heavy flirtation before Kevin gets Strexed. After some minor story changes, this particular piece no longer fits the plot as well)
