Every fall, when orange and brown leaves rustled beneath his feet and the skies turned that never yielding grey, the Circus Caravan came into town.
Grian knew when it had arrived, because the fog it brought would pool through the cobblestone streets and push the old dark-wood houses more crooked year by year.
There was an old warning passed through the generations of his town. The elders spoke it hushed at the end of the summer, when the fog clouded their eyes with fear.

If Mumbo had known trying to help the hurt Mer in the hidden inlet in the cliffs included side effects such as driving hours through the woods, meeting a woman with a gun, a strange man wearing a metal mask, getting involved in a car chase, and ending up stuck in a secret facility in the middle of nowhere, he maybe would just have called a vet. Altough, looking back at it, maybe all isn't so bad.

Zephyr: A man with black wings, fearless and with a penchant for air battles.
Protesilaus: A young man, a strong and smart solider with quick reflexes, picked up by the Angel of Death many years ago.
Nemesis: A pink-haired woman soft on the outside and cold hearted on the inside, promising pain for everyone who dared to hurt innocent people.
Lethe: A killer with two skin tones, so fast people tell he can teleport, but in reality he just really needs someone to hold him close.
Harpocrates: No one knows who he is, pulling strings in the background and giving their friends all the information they could need.
Together they lead The Syndicate, fight to stop the war, to bring peace upon this world once again, no matter how many countries try to hunt them down, no matter how many armies they have to defeat to do so.

The Blood God raised his netherite blade, pointing the tip straight at Philza’s heart.
“-I will allow you to die with a sword in your hand, and once you’re dead, I will slaughter your children.”
Philza fell to his knees without hesitation.

Philza had been prepared for a lot of things when he was taken as a war prize: the loss of his basic freedom, the heartbreak of being separated from his sons, the indignity of being reduced into the piglin king’s “pet”.
What he hadn’t been expecting was for the man behind the blood-stained mask to be soft-spoken, or good-natured, or tired from the weight of his crown.

So I'm a free-range superhero (35M) specializing in looking out for my community. There's a local vigilante (?M) who I'll call Frog Hop who doesn't believe in business opportunities who's been getting in my way a lot. I think it'd be safe to say that he's my nemesis. Last night there was an important shipment that he got in the way of at the last minute (he has these carrot-themed bombs that cause so much fucking noise and light, I hate them) and when the smoke cleared it turned out that he'd ruined the perfectly legitimate business opportunity and he was there kind of like what are you gonna do. So obviously I told him that he'd ruined my plans for the last fucking time and kind of went after him with my claws and wings. Which I thought was fine, he'd gotten in my way one too many times, right?
But anyways, when I was talking to my friend T (32M) at our coffee meetup this morning the fight was on the news and he said that maybe the hero had taken things too seriously, and the vigilante saw this more as a fun rivalry they had and didn't mean to really hurt the hero.
AITA?

“...I would do it for you.” He growls out. There’s something inhuman about it that makes the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. “If it was the other way around, I would do it for you.”
Scar doesn’t know what to say to that. It’s selfish, he knows. Grian is a husk. A shell of the person he was. A danger to everyone around– none more than Scar himself in this moment, pinned to the ground by the creature. But it’s still Grian. In a way. It’s got his face. It’s got his voice. And something more too, whether it realizes it or not. It’s got Scar’s heart.
