    Summary

The bootsteps were outside the door, and Grace stopped fidgeting, going as still as an animal trying to play dead in the woman’s arms. The doorknob jiggled suddenly and Grace flinched, and was pressed harder into the wall for it. The woman had locked the door though and the man on the other side – the monster that had been pursuing Grace – simply walked away, his heavy footfalls receding further down the hall. There was another crash of thunder outside, muffled by the door, and a low whine of fear bubbled out of Grace before she could stop it. The pair stood in tense, heavy silence for a few beats, both straining to hear if the footsteps returned, but the only sound outside the door was the muffled rage of the thunderstorm.

Slowly, the woman’s eyes went back to Grace’s face, and she raised an eyebrow.

“Grace Ashcroft.” The woman’s voice was dry with annoyance, and Grace went very still. “You’ve gotten blood on my sleeve.”

Alone and afraid in Rhodes Hill Care Centre, Grace stumbles into an ally.

    Summary

Azula has never been stupid. Her wits sharper than any blade, spear, or even those dumb fans those Kyoshi Warriors were so fond of.

But try as she might, she has never truly understood love.

When she was younger she used to wonder. She would squint up at sun, begging Agni for an answer. And when silence followed, she would stay up at night, staring at the starry sky. Because if the sun could not answer then maybe the moon could.

    She receives answers from neither.

She is 8 when she decides she does not care anymore. She might not understand love. But at the very least, she thinks she knows what it feels like.

    Summary

Rumi, Mira and Zoey end up attending the same interspecies college, and get randomly assigned as roommates.

Demon Rumi, Vampire Mira, and Werewolf Zoey - What could go wrong?

    -
The vampire looked down slowly at the mess on her clothes, then back up.

Rumi’s heart slammed against her ribs like it wanted out.

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” the girl said, her voice cold and flat.

Rumi stepped forward without thinking, pressing the flimsy paper napkin against the slick black leather covered in her lunch.

“I—I’m so sorry,” she stammered, every syllable tripping over the last. “I didn’t mean—I wasn’t looking and—”

“You didn’t mean to walk straight?” the vampire snapped, voice slicing clean through her apology. “Or use eyes that work?”

Up close, the vampire’s presence hit like a cold front.

    Terrifying, her instincts offered.

    Beautiful, her brain added unhelpfully.

And here she was… rubbing at her chest.

The motion was clumsy and awkward—her brain screaming at her to help clean while her hands were busy doing exactly the kind of contact you’d never want to initiate with a stranger.
