Vi batted her head in the direction, she’s pretty sure Caitlyn just bumped into her coffee table. She let out a soft chuckle.
“Shit, and I thought I was the blind one.” Vi teased with a shit eating grin on her face.
“Y-your light’s off, so I can’t see..” Caitlyn replied hesitantly.

Her eyes flicked to the sunglasses. Indoors. But they didn’t feel performative, not the kind of fashion statement she’d seen on twenty-somethings in university hallways.
It wasn’t until the woman leaned back and reached for a nearby water bottle, her hand landing on it with unerring accuracy, that Caitlyn felt the first twinge of realization.

Summary
Dr. Kiramman steers her through the chaos and plants her in a chair. Does something to her arm that hurts like fuck, then drapes her in bags of ice and wraps her in a sling. Blinds her with a pen light—“Called it,” she mumbles when he confirms she’s concussed—and presses two pills and a warm mug into her hand. It smells herbaceous. Familiar.
“I brought the good stuff from home,” Dr. Kiramman confesses, and it takes her a moment to understand he means tea. “Extra honey for you. I know you haven’t acquired the taste.”
He’s right in that she only actually drank it once, the first time it was offered—the afternoon they spoke to the Council, several lifetimes ago. But she tasted it just this morning in Caitlyn’s mouth, grassy and sweet. So she pops the pills and takes a sip. Tries not to think about whether that terrified kiss over breakfast was their last. “I want to see her.”
After the war, Vi and Cait recover, and rebuild.

Caitlyn wasn’t a scientist but she knew her way around numbers. She had laid them all out conveniently in a notebook with some sloppy calculations which could have been a hyperbole at best, a gross underestimation at worst.
One year in the pit. Three fights a day on average. Around a thousand fights.
That meant that in one year alone, Vi had fielded hundreds of thousands of punches.
And for the first time in her life, Caitlyn wished she were bad at math.
Years after the war, Vi’s violent past catches up to her. Or Vi's pitfighter era has health consequences.
