And then Shion is next to him, and they grab onto each other to get to their feet. The flashlight is somewhere below them, giving the water an eerie glow. As Shion leans down to grab it, Nezumi keeps a hold on his arm, and says, “This place isn’t that important. You don’t need to try so hard.”
Shion doesn’t shrug Nezumi off this time, just looks up and gives him a resolute glare. “Don’t say things like that,” he snaps, “of course it’s important, it was your home.”

There’s this hushed, meek part of him that admits he was hoping things would be different.
A part of him fancied his return like slipping on a pair of well worn shoes, like the easy turn of pages from a well loved book. Because between each mismatched encounter there’s a knowing there, the lingering of a history neither one can shuck, and it amounts to a far bigger picture than the bumbling, graceless shapes they’ve been moving in these past few days.
Yet another bigger, truer part of him knows it was a foolish, airheaded thing to even think at all.

Summary
Nezumi has been a servant boy in the royal castle for eight years, his topmost duty being to cater directly to the prince - Shion. While Nezumi does not find his duties particularly difficult, a nearly impossible part of his job includes hiding his feelings for the prince he has loved for as long as he can remember.

“You’re okay with this?”
“With?” Nezumi asks, leaning back from the prince, stepping back to put space between them because they are much too close, sometimes Nezumi worries that they are much too close for what he can stand.
“Me getting married,” Shion says, and Nezumi raises an eyebrow.
“Aren’t you typically supposed to ask the father of the bride for permission? I was not aware I had a daughter, especially not one in such a high enough place to court Your Majesty.”
“Nezumi,” Shion says, and Nezumi waits for the rest, but nothing comes.
He exhales, looks away from Shion, at the mirror where he can see Shion’s reflection looking at him too earnestly, where he can see his own reflection, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, ponytail half out, bangs scattered.

Summary
Shion is working on a drug that enables him to time travel. He can't control where he time travels, or for how long, but in no matter what time he finds himself, it is always to come back to Nezumi's side.

“What’s normal to you?” Nezumi asked, after a moment, though he wasn’t sure he wanted to know.
This was normal. Shion in Nezumi’s present, as he was, was normal. Where Shion went when he left was not normal. It was the time between normalcy.
“I have brown eyes and brown hair,” Shion said, glancing back at the mirror, and Nezumi tried to imagine him with such descriptors – it was so ordinary it should not have been so difficult to imagine. “And I didn’t have this scar,” Shion said, tracing his own scar gently with his fingertips as Nezumi had a minute before.
“I didn’t know that.”
“When I go back to my present – whenever I do – What will I look like?”

Summary
Shion's touch is deadly - literally. Shion's skin cannot come in direct contact with anyone else's, or the other would die. Nezumi, new to the small town where Shion lives, does not know that, and while Nezumi usually keeps his distance from people, Shion happens to be the exception.
Preview:
When Nezumi reaches out to take the toothbrush, of course their fingers do not touch. Instead, Nezumi’s skin grazes Shion’s glove, and Shion pretends he can feel it, the warmth that his mother told him resulted in the contact of skin-against-skin.
He wonders if Nezumi’s skin is warm too, or if it is like his voice, cool and smooth. Maybe his fingers are soft, even though they share the hue of hard porcelain.
“Thanks,” Nezumi murmurs, and Shion likes the way his gratitude comes grudgingly, likes that he has to earn it, likes that it only seems more genuine because of this.
“You’re welcome, Nezumi,” Shion says.
He likes saying Nezumi’s name. The syllables are strange and secretive on his tongue. Jumble around his lips like a mystery in themselves.
Shion likes that this man has secrets. In a town where Shion knows everyone, it is nice to know he is no longer the only one with something to hide.Bookmarked by VampireT22
