He gave Zhou Zishu a lingering look from beneath his lashes. “Your virtuous wife will accompany you of course.”
“Oh? When did I obtain a wife, let alone a virtuous one?”
“How could you say that, A-Xu?” Wen Kexing asked with feigned, wide-eyed hurt. “Would anyone but your virtuous wife prick their fingers a thousand times just to accompany you in this mundane chore?”
Zhou Zishu looked up and caught Wen Kexing’s gaze, arching an eyebrow. “If you’re my virtuous wife, then when are you going to fulfil your other wifely duties?”
Zhou Zishu is utterly baffled when his attempts to reciprocate Wen Kexing’s flirting results in unexpected and uncharacteristic reactions. As arrogant as it might sound, Zhou Zishu had expected Wen Kexing to respond far more enthusiastically, rather than quite literally fleeing from his overtures. What the hell is going on here?

“You’re just as loud when I’m fucking you,” Wen Kexing says. Whether this is because he inhabits an alternate universe to everyone else or simply because he thinks lying is fun, Zhou Zishu doesn’t know and doesn’t care to find out.

The dragon is drawn from his melancholy recollections by the clank of metal, and he uncurls from his spot at the entrance to the tower. A knight is approaching, with shiny silver armor and teal accents, and the most curious filigree designs running along the edges.
The dragon gets to his feet, a low rumbling building in his throat. The knight stops, studying him. And then, instead of drawing their sword and attacking, they shove their visor up, revealing a pale lovely face and clear blue eyes.
“Garak?” she asks, and the reality that has been hovering just to one side suddenly snaps uncomfortably back into place.

Hob looks up and he’s there, and the relief is blinding. He thinks tu m’as manqué, fuck, because you were missing from me feels more true than I missed you ever has. English missing was ruined for him the moment he learned the French way of it. Longing is meant to be a reflexive verb.
It would be a bad faith translation, even for him. He tells himself this is why he doesn’t say it.
He thinks at last, and that’s a doable one. So he smiles, says, “You’re late.”
