Jason Todd doesn't return from the grave with the bloody fury of the Red Hood; he returns with a fractured, amnesiac mind, exploited as cheap manual labor in an illegal Gotham sweatshop. Known only as "Big Guy Jay," his biggest daily struggle is sorting heavy metal parts and dreaming of earning his next hamburger.
But a routine factory raid by the Batfamily changes everything forever. When Nightwing crashes through a shattered skylight and lands right in front of the brother he thought had been dead for years, Jay's world is turned upside down. The only problem is, Jay has no idea why these terrifying, masked vigilantes drop their weapons and start sobbing the moment they see him.
A warm, safe feeling washed over him; it was as if a missing piece floating in the dark void of his mind had snapped into place with a loud click. It was like he had finally been packed into the right box.

Summary
His eyes are blown wide, glassy both with his streaming tears and the inevitable fuzziness that comes with presentation. No worthwhile pack member or parent would ever allow a child so young to be alone during such a vulnerable time. All at once, Dick realizes he can’t leave him behind. Clutching at his own stomach in a sad attempt at an embrace, crying so hard he seems close to vomiting, Dick can’t just drop him off at a facility.
As much as he’d like to think a professional Heat Center would be ideal for a kid like this, there’s a reason he himself has never gone to one. Even during his worst fights with Bruce over the years, he’s always felt safer locked in his bedroom than in some facility. With how out of it the kid is, it would be far too easy for someone to take the opportunity to traffic such a rare find. He can’t risk it, not without proper research and vetting to ensure the place is secure and credible. There’s no time, this pup is in heat now. He needs someone now and Dick is the only one here.

Jason doesn’t stir, but Dick knows it’s not because his presence hasn't woken him, but because he’s just in the space between sleep and awake where he’ll be able to easily fall back asleep once Dick’s in bed with him. He looks younger and less troubled in his sleep, the way he also sometimes looks when he’s lost in a good book or laughing at a bad joke, like he hasn’t got a care in the world.

“You know everyone likes to say I’m the dramatic one, but I don’t think they hold a torch to you, Richard .” Jason said, rolling his eyes as he pulled the window shut. He was dressed in jeans, a t-shirt and his non-armoured leather jacket, with no obvious weapons, which suggested whatever he needed help with wasn’t that urgent, so Dick continued to focus on his pasta.
“I still have a video of you doing Shakespeare at school, little wing, so you might want to reconsider that statement.” He looked up just in time to catch Jason’s cheeks go pink, though he immediately tried to cover it with a scowl. To most other people, that scowl probably looked downright dangerous, but all Dick could see was the tiny twelve year old who made the same expression the first time Dick teased him in front of the Titans.
