    Silvally let out an angry cry, leaping at Nihilego. It grabbed onto Gladion’s crimson bag, snapping the bag off of Gladion’s waist due to the sudden force. Silvally fell to the floor with the bag, and the Ultra Beast pulled away like it was nothing, heading straight towards the closing Ultra Wormhole.

    The last thing Ash saw was one small, weak smile that Gladion had directed straight at him before he was ultimately dragged into the wormhole, disappearing in an instant.

    “Gladion! GLADION! BIG BROTHER!”

    Or, Gladion gets captured by Nihilego instead of Lusamine, and shit goes down from there.

    The smile grew, and Ash shifted to gather Pikachu up in his arms, tight and warm and fond. “Oh, buddy, you know I love you, right?”

    Ash was silly, Pikachu remarked, because of course he knew, and of course he loved Ash back too. They pulled out the malasadas, eating them slowly, savoring the taste, as the breeze ruffled Ash’s hair and Pikachu’s fur. “It really is a beautiful day, huh? Like the universe is smiling down on us.”

    It better be, Pikachu grumbled, only feigning annoyance. You’ve saved it enough times.

    “Pikachu,” he admonished, only feigning chagrin, “you know we don’t do that for recognition.”

    We should still get it, though, went unsaid, but Pikachu’s tail was flicking a little, miffed.

    Ash looked up at the clouds, falling back. “We sure have been at it for a long time, haven’t we buddy?”

     

    alternatively: the professors get married and also Ash doesn't tell anyone it's his birthday.
