Summary
While it is hard to study sparks directly, it is hypothesised that the white core of the spark is responsible for a bot's emotions and identity, while the colourful corona is correlated with their drive, their determination.
It is not currently known what would happen if one were to separate individual fragments of a spark, due to ethical concerns of such an experiment, but it is perhaps feasible for a strong-willed enough bot to survive on their spark's corona alone.

Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker are happy-ish with the Decepticons. They believe in the cause, and are loyal. Or, mostly, in Starscream’s case. Despite energon shortages, and poor conditions, they have each other, and that’s enough.
But with Megatron’s declining state, that can be threatened. Where else is there to go, and would anyone be willing to take them?

Summary
Set in modern day of the mid-2020s, Light is the ideal teenager. Perfect grades & reputation, a beautiful loving girlfriend, interns for his father, the chief of police, has a loving upper-middle class family. By all accounts, he should be ecstatic for the direction his life is going, so why does he feel so empty & trouble on the inside?
L was different, diagnosed with autism young, set in the foster system after a visit from British Social Services at 4. He ends up in the hands of a man who takes care of many gifted children. While moving from the UK to Japan for his guardians work, the foster system took him from his lifelong guardian, leaving him in a temporary foster home in Japan while his guardian fights for him back.
Light & L, though so different, starting their relationship as rivals, competing for the top while constantly fighting each other, both verbally & physically, on a hard night for them both, they find each other, & makeup for the way they treated each other, realizing how similar each other really are.
TL/DR
A universe where Light and L are academic rivals. Criminals big and small start dying one by one. Except in this universe, Light isn't responsible.Bookmarked by WrittenInCinnamon
