He saved the planet but lost his home for a second time.
His vision tilts and Phainon swallows down the bile in his throat.

“You’re beautiful, Deliverer,” Mydei murmurs. It sounds like an act of worship, reverent in a way that shouldn’t be for someone like him.
A dam has broken. Phainon can’t stop the choked sob that falls from his lips, tears flooding down his cheeks. Mydei’s lips are warm against his feverish, marred skin. It feels wrong, almost like he’s dirtying Mydei with his impurity.
“You’re lying,” Phainon whispers, the beginnings of hysteria forming in his throat. “Don’t—”
Mydei shushes him, and he quiets. The alpha continues to press soft kisses against his damaged mating gland, and little by little, Phainon begins to melt.
A broken omega like him will never be loved. His scent offends, and his cycles are violent and irregular. Nothing about him is sweet or soft. Since the moment Phainon set foot in Okhema, he’s known he’s unlovable.
Mydei proves him otherwise.

“I — ah! — didn’t want to bother you,” Phainon breathes out.
Mydei sighs, stopping himself in his tracks, rising from where he had left marks in Phainon’s skin to admire the canvas of pale skin where colourful bruises began to bloom, where an angry, red wound, made in a show of love and want, stared back at him; only to reach up with both hands, from where he still held Phainon’s waist to cup his soft cheeks, drawing Phainon’s gaze to his own, blinking back the tears as confusion on why he stopped clouded Phainon’s features.
“You are always putting others feelings and needs ahead of your own, and leaving yourself in a position to feel undesired,” Mydei states simply. Phainon shifts uncomfortably, feeling exposed, though it had nothing to do with his half-naked state. “So, tell me the truth, Phainon. Did you feel neglected? Unwanted?”
Mydei has been neglecting his omega. He does his best to make up for it.

Summary
It wasn't meant to be anything more than some friendly help. The same way Phainon's heat collar was never meant to be torn to shreds. Mydei's teeth were never meant to pierce his skin. No matter how much Phainon deeply ached for it to bear Mydei's mark.

Then the Titankin throws Phainon off the cliff.
As he falls, Phainon sees it: a brilliant flash of crimson, like fire, cutting through the Titankin like a knife through butter. Then crystals; sharp and gleaming like blood, expanding from a single point in the distance and rapidly skewering the remaining Titankin.
The crimson flash turns, bright as the sun, and Phainon stares back, his cape fluttering uselessly behind him like a pair of melted wax wings.
When Phainon plunges into the sea, his gaze meets a familiar pair of hazel eyes as Mydei leaps off the cliff to follow him.
After a mission gone awry, Phainon is hurled into the sea. Mydei saves him.
