Shane frowned at himself in the bathroom mirror. He had a lot to be concerned about: he was in an anxiety-inducing social situation in a city that had hated him his entire NHL career, and he was pretty sure one of his best friends was keeping a secret from him.
He sighed and adjusted his jacket. The suit he had worn to and from the game against Boston earlier was one of his – and Ilya’s – favorites, but he still felt self-conscious. There weren’t any guidelines on what to wear to dinner with the woman your husband had hooked up with for years and then almost married for citizenship and whom you still felt deep flashes of jealousy toward if you let yourself think about it for too long.

And so Shane steps into the Voyageurs' locker room, Luca on his heels, leaving the door open just a crack so Ilya and the others can hear what's going on.
The room goes quiet immediately, all faces turning to Shane in shock.
Hayden's the first to react, scrambling up from his stall, eyes wide. "Shane? What's going on?"
"I just wanted to see if any of you were willing to talk? So quiet on the ice today. I thought you'd have things to say to me, all things considered." Shane sweeps his gaze over his former team, uses his disappointed-Captain-voice and feels a smidge of smugness when it clearly hits them as it always has. "So say them to my fucking face, not behind my back."

Harris had suggested he and Shane do some friendly interviews to let the public see them as they were, rather than whatever idiots who didn’t know them tried to make of them in the press. Specifically, he suggested going on Wyatt’s podcast, Hazy’s Heroes, to talk about comic books of all things. When Ilya had pointed out the obvious problems with this plan – he wasn’t a nerd, and this was a stupid idea – Shane had just rolled his eyes and told Harris they’d find time on the schedule.
