“Holy…” Dean steps closer to Sam, mouth falling open and voice trailing off faintly as he notices his own reflection.
“Shit.” Sam agrees, head spinning.
He and his brother stand next to each other in the mirror. Both pale. Both blinking owlishly at themselves. And Sam realizes that what’s wrong with Dean’s eyes is also wrong with his own.
Sam’s right eye is completely normal. White sclera, hazel iris, black pupil. His right iris is still that annoying muddy blend of colors.
But his left iris…is green. Bottle green. Dean green.
Or: When a cursed object forces the boys to be in each other's line of sight or die, a fifteen-year-old Sam is forced to reckon with uncomfortable realizations about his feelings for his brother. Dean is not going to make it easy.

“Dean,” Sam breathes, but he’s…he’s not talking to Dean.
He knows what it sounds like when Sam says his name. And somehow, that wasn’t it.
Sam shoves right past him, hauling the door open with more strength than Dean’s seen him use since they got here all those months, years, decades ago. He sprints into the yard, cold winter sun turning his hair almost blond.
Dean. But not Dean. Dean’s blood runs cold.
Sam’s son. He’s here.
Or: Dean finally meets Dean Jr., who admits that he's been praying to Dean since he was young. Dean also finds out that Dean Jr. is not the only one who's been praying to him.

Summary
Dean blinks up at Sam with big green eyes and curls his hand into a fist, nails biting into the tough skin of his palm. It’s a nervous habit that Sam hasn’t seen in…years. His face, outside of the furrow in his brow, is unlined. Panic makes Sam's voice unleveled as he asks,
“Dean…what year is it?”
Dean shakes his head. “It’s 2006.”
Sam stares at his brother. His brother is twenty-six years old.
Or: A magical object in the bunker swaps a 26 y/o Dean and a 40 y/o Dean. A confused Sam—who has been in a relationship with his Dean for a few years—tries to pick up the pieces, and send this younger Dean back to his own time. Things are complicated further when 26y/o!Dean thinks the reason things are too good to be true is because he’s in a djinn dream, and he’s torn between staying and going back at all costs.

Summary
“It’s a heliotrope.” Sam says, and Dean turns his head so he can look at him. Dean moves the washcloth off of his head, and the cold slimy material makes his skin prickle.
Sam is sitting at the motel table, hunched over his computer like he’s trying to merge it with his torso. He’s been twirling the flower stem between his fingers absentmindedly which Dean thinks is a little gross—that thing came out of him, but whatever.
Or: Dean is cursed with Hanahaki disease, and wants to die with some dignity. Sam is going to save his brother at any cost. A story in two parts.

“Sammy?”
Sam jerks away, hitting his knee on the bottom of the table. Dean is standing above him, holding a tray with their food on it. Sam smiles apologetically, but it doesn’t feel convincing. From the expression of doubt and concern on Dean’s face, it doesn’t look it, either.
“Sorry.” Sam mumbles, as Dean moves to sit across from him. Sam scoots closer to the window so their legs don’t touch under the table.
Or: After a particular kind of torture in the Cage, Sam is afraid to touch Dean.

Summary
After Sam almost takes his own life after the trials, Sam and Dean slow down and stop hunting. They heal each other, but they're not perfect. A year and a half after they unofficially retired, Sam wants to have a Christmas, but it won't come easily. Their first real Christmas is something of an event. Hurt/comfort, heavy on the comfort.
