For a moment, Rumi’s face was unreadable, eyebrows creasing in thought. Then Rumi’s face scrunched up in what Zoey assumed was embarrassment, lips curling into an exaggerated grimace. She quickly brought her cup to her lips, attempting to hide her expression as pink dusted her cheeks.
“When you say it like that, one-on-one, it sounds corny as hell!”
Teasingly, Zoey gasped in mock horror.
“Rumi! You can’t say hell, you’re an angel!”

Summary
Zoey and Rumi were objectively adorable together.
Mira once considered the idea of a more … triangular arrangement amongst the three of them, but Zoey and Rumi fit in ways Mira didn’t see as fitting her. Mira wasn’t the cutesy, schoolgirl in love type that they turned into whenever they looked at each other. She had very clear preferences and a stubborn attitude that meant compromise was never an option.
The biggest issue is that Mira liked older women.

But they still have a lot more to work out in the aftermath of the Idol Awards & the Saja Boys... sometimes learning to love yourself for everything you are, and after everything you chose to do before hand, is a never-ending climb. And sometimes, overcoming all of your shame is easier sang than done.

The words tumbled out of her gracelessly, but so so sweetly. She waited, and all the while, that little balloon grew and grew, the plastic skin of it stretching and thinning with every second before—
“You too,” Celine said back.
‘Pop.’
“Celine,” Rumi tried again, voice shaking as tears she didn’t even know she still had left to shed began to drip down her left cheek. “Celine, I said I love you.”
