    Summary

“No, I - oh, God.” He buries his face in his hands, and he’ll take muddling his words over looking at Momo’s face in a heartbeat. “I’m asking because - because I’m attracted to him. I’d like a relationship with him, and - and I don’t know if I’d be on a fool’s errand, pursuing someone who doesn’t want that.”

There’s silence. Izuku counts ten, then twenty beats before he lifts his head, and sees Momo staring at him with a stricken expression, all the colour drained from her face. “What?” he says at once, alarmed. “What’s so - did I say something wrong?”

He watches the movement of Momo’s throat as she swallows, gathers herself, and shakes her head. “No,” she manages, and Izuku is taken aback by just how sorrowful one single word is. “You didn’t. It’s just… Izuku, Shouto’s been in love with you since we were fifteen years old.”

Twenty-seven year old Midoriya Izuku is determined to make up for lost time when it comes to pursuing Todoroki Shouto, despite the universe's best attempts to put him through it.

    Absolute cinema
my epub download is filled with emotional annotations.

I'm going to take this as my sign to stop kudos-sorting because this was absolute peak and i actually just can't go back. i was reading this a couple days ago and i was so happy that i found a fic whose author could write because i was so used to stumbling my way through some BS where the author doesn't know to show and not tell blah blah blah anyway. It was really hype.

I really liked the characterisation of all the characters/the main cast and how nobody was portrayed in an exclusively negative light (even that wanker endeavour), the relationship development was pretty realistic imo, and i liked that even though it was a shipfic they actually got together halfway through and we spent the latter half working through the bakugou and todoroki family subplots, because my main issue with a lot of shipfic is they get together halfway through the last chapter and then it ends and i'm like i didn't get any sweet sweet gratification for all of that getting-together story???? no multi-chapter of their fun domestic life together??? not here. we got peak "for better or for worse, through thick and thin" ahh relationship development even after they got together.

While i was reading it, i (personally, obviously my taste is my own lol) was worried about bakugou getting overly bashed (because i truly despise character bashing, it's so surface-level and is almost always shittily done) but in the end i really enjoyed how his character arc played out. He did have a MAJOR rough patch where yes, he maybe got quite a lot of life-destroying flack compared to some other redemption fics you read where he's nicer, but honestly it's a good balance between realistic redemption with a lack of senseless bashing and him facing the real life horrible consequences of trying to shove your really really dead middle school skeletons into your closet.

also, author, i really like your writing style. i mean, not necessarily style, but i was REALLY REALLY happy throughout the fic (kicking my feet and shii) to see that you left little clues/foreshadowing for future events (if you know what i mean). Hinting at shit without shoving it in my face so i can connect the dots on my own is something that not a lot of fic (that i have read recently) does so it was very nice and refreshing. literally right after the fire on his feet guy's quirk went haywire at the start of the fic i commented on that passage "im gonan type it now but ive been rhinking of it from the beginning there WILL be a scene where izuku takes a quirk destroying bullet for shouto i swear to god if it doesn't happen i'm going to shoot someone with the same bullet " and lo and behold.

LAST THING I SWEAR: it was very satisfying how the ending neatly tied up all the plot threads. i feel like stories generally forget about one or two, but to my knowledge, you didn't really forget anything. We got kirishima/bakugou resolution, hitoshi and eraserhead resolution, momo/awase resolution, ofcs tododeku resolution, future path resolution, baku-deku resolution, etc. Pretty neat grabbing the seemingly forgettable details/hints and using them all like that. I don't think i've seen that since i read deltora quest in year 7.

holy glaze anyway tldr i liked the fucking fic

    Summary

"You saved my life," Todoroki says.

Izuku freezes. Then he looks up. Todoroki Shouto is staring at him, his eyes calm but wide, dust and soot all over his face. His perfect, handsome face. He's more beautiful in person than Izuku could have imagined.

"You just saved all of us," Todoroki says again. "What's your name?"

"M-Midoriya," Izuku chokes out. "Midoriya Izuku."

    Todoroki nods. "Midoriya. Thank you."

    Okay, let’s talk HeroCon.

Look around, and you’ll see a lot of discrimination—against people whose Quirk is debilitating, against people whose Quirks scare us, against people who have trouble controlling their Quirk, against people who don’t have a Quirk at all. It’s easy to feel alone in a sea of discrimination.

    Enter HeroCon:X.

    Bookmarker's Notes

this is the fucking goat fic on one of my favourite topics/tropes to be discussed within the mha fandom (well two of them combined, actually)
the first one is deku being the undisputed goat hero but also still being an oblivious fanboy
the second is just the general topic of quirkless discrimination and connection and culture

and this fic perfectly combines both of them. love love love to the author!
