    There comes a day in every man's life when he has to look at the circumstances of his existence and decide whether he wants to keep fighting.

    For Ed, that day comes when the frost giants attack Bryn Shander.

    "We are getting the fuck out of Ten Towns," he tells Holga.

    When frost giants attack the city of Bryn Shander in 1491, Ed and Holga make the decision to take Kira and make the perilous journey south to Mornbryn's Shield, where they hope to start a new life away from the unpredictable Ten Towns and the memory of Edgin's wife. Along the way they meet a paladin of Ilmater who agrees to escort them as far as Mirabar, setting off a chain of events that will have Ed questioning his beliefs, evaluating his relationship with his daughter, and perhaps even let him heal enough to finally find happiness again.

The Vulcans seem to find him distasteful at best, utterly ignorable at worst. He feels lonely and lost until his roommate M’Benga takes him down to the market just for something to do. He finds himself drawn to the soulful sweet sounds of lyre playing and meets a tall, awkward Vulcan with stunning brown eyes and long clever fingers who seems to be the only person who’s actually feeling anything around here. He meets Spock, and it isn’t long before he starts falling for him.
