Summary
El just wants to live her life, occasionally kill some maw-mouths, and help set up golden enclaves. Ideally, while spending time with her friends and enjoying freedom from the Scholomance. That's not too much to ask, right? But the world, the maw-mouths, and her magic have different plans for her. Because, of course they do.
This picks up after the trilogy ends and explores El, Aadhya, Liu, and Liesel’s journey fighting maw-mouths, keeping El's powers a secret, and other magical escapades. Plus snark. Lots and lots of snark.

Summary
When she had first heard the words coming out of Higgin's mouth, Liesel couldn't initially comprehend them. She registered the words and knew what they meant, the same way someone could read and process the words in a paragraph, but when realizing they were at the bottom of the page could not tell you what they had just read. That initial confusion, wherein the reality she had been living in collided with Higgin's words, had rapidly dulled her processing abilities. Then all at once, like crisp corners slapping into place, Liesel finally understood the situation.
So what was a little attempted murder.
(Liesel makes a good run to get into the New York Enclave. Unbeknownst to her, some cards are already off the table.

Chicago Enclave is a nobody in the magical world no matter how important or pivotal the mundane side of the city becomes. Chicago is a cautionary tale, one of the lessons that gets drilled into the heads of everyone who learns the Living Stone construction spells - the story of Chicago’s complete failure to properly get their core under compulsion, and the resulting mawmouth had fled screaming into the depths of Lake Michigan.
An exploration of trying to get your pre-existing Enclave turned to gold; when the Council is stubbornly against it, your only ally is too good for this cruel world, and you have a tragic lack of hands.
