    He started to gently pull Bakugou towards him, but the blond managed to tear his arm free of Kirishima's grasp, shaking his head and suddenly struggling for air.

    "I feel ...," he started, and Kirishima's chest tightened at how slurred the words came tumbling from his lips. "I feel -", he tried again, but then red eyes rolled back in his skull and he swayed too far to the side and then he dropped.

    Katsuki apologised literally fucking months ago. Back in December, a few days before New Years, when they were walking in the snow together, on their way back from the train station where they'd gone to meet up with their class for a post-Christmas group celebration, the words that he had been rolling in his mind for weeks by then finally spilt over his lips, and they had burned, acid and blood and rust, but they had felt good too, in a way. A weight off of his shoulders.

    And, yeh, he knew not to get his hopes and shit up, knew not to expect it to just be forgiven and forgotten on the spot but, fuck, it still hurt, when Izuku had stared at him for four long breaths, eyes suddenly dark, and had thanked him, but said he couldn't accept it yet. That had hurt like a fucking bitch.

     But he had understood, and he had waited. Had respected that Izuku needs time, because they've both been scarred but Izuku most of all. And Katsuki's patience is rewarded.

    Katsuki has a good day. More than that, he has a day where he gets forgiven for things he has feared will always haunt their relationship.

    It's good things, as simple as.

    Izuku and Katsuki have grown up together, in shared cookies and fights and Quirk diagnoses, in avoidance and bullying and finally, finally, in reconciliation, in something more akin to brothers than friends, begrudging and soft and so much more, all in equal measure.

    Katsuki is the one Izuku runs to when he sees Hisashi climbing the stairs of his apartment complex, and he is the one who keeps him safe.

     

    (Izuku and Katsuki haven't always had a good relationship, but it's solidly back in the realms of healthy now, something very much proved when Hisashi turns up again and Izuku just needs to feel safe. Katsuki gives him that.)
