Kaveh brought up Al-Haitham’s hand and tentatively intertwined their fingers. The drying paint, Kaveh’s blue and Al-Haitham’s yellow, mixed into a green that flaked off as Kaveh stroked Al-Haitham’s hand. Al-Haitham’s breath hitched, seeing their hands laced together, eyes wide and wet, unwilling and afraid to break the silence. Al-Haitham had never before felt so vulnerable, but with Kaveh, he can try.

So, just this once, he decides to break his principles and go above the law. He kidnaps Light and takes him to Wammy's house.
He's sure that having the kids interact with a real-life mass murderer will be a very educational experience indeed.
