Summary
After a summer and autumn of costly fighting, the Mede ambassador offered his services as a mediator to Attolia and Eddis, but it didn’t seem like Eddis was taking the bait. One evening, Kamet had waited outside while his master dined with the Queen of Eddis, working hard to both eavesdrop and not look like he was eavesdropping. He went inside to scribe during the negotiations afterward, which had been stilted. Then, as he was packing up his papers, Kamet had made eye contact with the Thief of Eddis, and the Thief had grinned.
That grin haunted Kamet now, lying awake on his cot in the Ambassador’s quarters. He’d last seen it over Onarkus’ shoulder in Attolia’s palace kitchen, tricky and conspiratorial. What could the Thief be conspiring about now? Eugenides had already been captured and maimed by the Queen of Attolia when Kamet recognized him. Possibly he blamed Kamet for the change in Nahuseresh’s arguments when the Mede ambassador found out that he’d been posing as a servant in the palace for months on end. Possibly this would turn out to be very bad news for Kamet.

Steve gets out of the hospital in two days, but just barely. “I’m fine,” he tells Sam, Nurse Eunjung and the phalanx of doctors assigned to make sure Captain America didn’t bleed out and die and get bad PR all over their nice clean hospital. “I have an advanced healing factor. It’s fine. See? I’m standing.”
“That is not standing,” Sam tells him.
“You’re bending the IV stand,” Nurse Eunjung adds pointedly. “Let go and sit down, they don’t grow on trees.”
