Summary
The train rolls to a stop. The pair gather their prizes and sweets and exit, allowing the next group to board. “We have half an hour left of daylight. I suggest we make our way to the exi…” Veritas trails off. Aventurine turns fully to his partner to see him staring blankly into the park. Aventurine follows his gaze, but all he sees is the same crowd of people that’s been present since arrival.
“What is i-HEY!” His question is interrupted by Veritas speedwalking toward a line. Aventurine scrambles to keep up. “What is it?!” His confusion only grows when Veritas stays silent and doesn’t stop until they’ve reached a ridiculously long line. “Fine, don’t answer.” Aventurine pouts. He leans his body to the side to look for himself, but they’re too far back in the line (comprised almost entirely of very young children and their families) for him to get an answer. He sighs, about to turn around and chew out his partner for leaving him in the dark when the line moves up by an inch and he catches a glimpse at it: a bright yellow duck mascot.

“Anyone home?” Mammon asked. You just groaned in response, really not in the mood to deal with any trouble the second eldest had brought.
“Oh c’mon, ya don’t hate me that much, do ya?” He responded to your groan, strolling right into your room and shutting the door behind him.
You sighed. “No, Mammon, I don’t hate you at all,” you said, your voice sounding a bit more strained than you’d expected.
“‘Course ya don’t…” There was a moment of silence before Mammon spoke again: “‘...You okay there?” His tone was still light, but there was an edge of concern to his voice.
You sat up, scrunching up your face at the weird sensation that followed in your gut. “No,” you responded simply. “I feel like shit.”
