“Kip, help,” Scott says. “Rozanov’s trying to make us play never have I ever because he never matured past the age of twelve.”

“I am trying,” Ilya slurs more than says, “to make memories.”

“Yeah, because you’re definitely gonna remember this tomorrow.”

    Summary

"It just works better like that. Taking his mind off of the logistics and the meaning of it all and the implications lets him put that focus to better work on the actual thing he cares about: hockey. It really isn’t that different from outsourcing his branding to Mom, or any less embarrassing than his dietician meal prepping for him or his trainer mapping out his workout plan. They’re experts in their field, nutrition and marketing and fucking. Shane is an expert in his: taking all that into his body and using it to be fucking awesome at hockey. It’s win, win, win.

Meals get delivered at his door. Room numbers and plans get texted to him. And appointments with photographers get emailed with subject lines reminding him to remember to use the good shampoo in his hair before them.

He’s still in control in the sense he’s letting it all happen for him, except that sometimes, especially at these stupid fucking photoshoots, it feels a little bit like it’s happening to him, instead."

Shane gets into a bad situation with a photographer who has pictures Shane would rather not get out. Ilya and Rose find out about it, eventually.

    Summary

There are many analogies Henry’s used for pain at various stages over the last handful of years.

Today, it feels like a sonata played with shaking fingers, with notes that Henry knows are slightly off but can’t manage to tune just right. It swells—in his knees and wrists and shoulders—and then retreats, leaving him little time in between to catch his breath, much less attempt all that's on his perpetual to-do list. Sometimes nothing more than the ghost of a melody stuck somewhere in the back of his mind, and other times like a cacophony that he can’t seem to turn off.

Never completely gone. Similar to his thoughts of Alex.

    “I’m fine- this happens sometimes.”

    “It shouldn’t.”

“Well it does.” Shane raised his voice slightly, “It has for as long as I can remember.” He took a deep breath and reminded himself that he couldn’t be angry at Hayden right now, he was trying to help.
    ~

Hayden Pike has Shane's back from day one, on and off the ice. That includes when Shane has one hell of a panic attack at an awards dinner.

Part one of an exploration of Shane's anxiety in his relationships with others.

    Summary

When an NHL team loses far more often than it wins, a smart general manager will trigger a rebuild, a complete overhaul of the team's roster, strategy, and personnel.

Generally speaking, there are five steps to any rebuild.

    1. Identify the problems
    2. Excise the rot
    3. Acquire better assets
    4. Set a new foundation
    5. Start praying

A rebuild is a brutal, necessary business decision for the survival of the team.

Nobody knows more about surviving brutal, necessary decisions than Kent Parson.
