The words rushed out of her before she could stop them. She squeezed her eyes shut, hoping that if she waited long enough Jack would just get up and leave without saying anything more.
But of course, Jack Abbot wouldn’t leave her.
“Samira,” he said with all the patience he showed little kids in the ED, “can you say that one more time for me?”
She raised her gaze to look at him, only to find that he was looking at her first.
