In the early days, pre-existance of the assassination classroom, Nagisa establishes an unlikely friendship with yet another A-Class big wig by chance - but, having been hurt by the recent friendship break from Karma, Nagisa feels like it may end up as "superficial" as the last friendship he made.
but, of course, once they begin to connect, as curiosity strings them farther and farther along, the two find themselves more similar than different. in the end, even if Gakushuu is supposed to hate Nagisa for simply being in class E... he can't. he still makes time, using any methods he can to keep in touch.
even if he has to fight with Karma more than he wants to.
even if it means going against the explicit rules his father sets for him.
even if the stress of being a prized student atop this secret is surely eating him alive.
even if that stress is causing him to black out more and more...

Gakushuu has a secret.
No, he doesn't really care if his close friends find out.
However,
When his father sends him to E-class with a vague explanation and a Cat pun, Gakushuu thinks he'll keep his secret from everyone for as long as he can.
Hes only doubled down on this idea when Akabane Karma returns, because he refuses to go through the hell that will follow Karma knowing his secret.
But, the world apparently enjoys finding ways to fuck him over with as little lube as possible.
He needs more appropriate analogies.

Summary
4 of them , him and a cliff . A way like many others to one of his safe houses . He mentally checks himself, making sure his mask is in his possession as he takes a step back and looks down in time to see a few pecks of dirt dislodge from the edge of the cliff and fall , down, down, down into cold icey winter water.
They take a step forward, Red Hood twitches and his hands raise subconsciously. Almost as to put them out in peace offering or an attempt to stop Damian from jumping , which Hood can’t do.
“Kid.” Nightwing. Tries to coax him into smoothness, into relax . Damian knows better than to sway to soft spoken words , especially his name . His mother would do the same but the outcome would be treacherous several almost fatal wounds and days without getting fed. So no he does nothing but glare at Nightwing.
