“Alex, this isn’t quite how I planned to propose this to you, but I’m afraid it’s where we’re at.” Henry sets his jaw, and meets Alex’s eyes. “How would you feel about impregnating me?”
Alex is pretty sure he short circuits.
It takes him a moment to fully register Henry’s words, process them, and then burst into uncontrollable laughter.
Henry winces, watching as Alex bends in half, hands on his knees, laughing so hard that tears begin to stream down his cheeks. His laughter echoes through the kitchen, and he wipes at his eyes, clutching his stomach, until he realizes something that sobers him entirely.
Henry isn’t laughing.

“Oh,” the first girl says, disappointment evident in her voice. “That doesn’t count. It’s not really a date, so maybe I can still ask him..”
That angers Henry. Why doesn’t he count? Because they’re best friends? Because he’s not good enough for the school’s golden boy? These people don’t even know him, they barely know Alex! He squares his shoulders and sits up a little straighter, schooling his face into a neutral expression.

Summary
After announcing their relationship to the public, things got crazy and they got so, so much better. The Crown is in a state of thinly veiled contempt, the internet loves them, and the media cares entirely too much about them. Asking for privacy is, at times, a loss cause, but the freedom Henry and Alex gained through that one Instagram post is enough to get drunk on.
It is a lot. It always will be a lot. But Henry wouldn’t trade it for anything. Loving Alex publicly is what he has been dreaming of this whole time. He gets to have that now, and everything else is crap as far as he is concerned.
Of course, the honeymoon period cannot last forever. The glow never fades but sometimes, something else creeps in.
Then, the very next day, Alex stops eating and Henry is helpless to do anything but watch.
