Steve agrees to it because Robin asked, because after a few too many one night stands, she's worried about him. Because she loves him, and yeah, yeah, great, thanks. He loves her too. He just didn't realize that would mean he'd have to go the whole month with no sex, no hook ups, and no orgasms.
But while Steve comes to terms with no cumming, he doesn't realize what this means for him and Eddie. But maybe Eddie did, maybe Eddie knew all along. And that's where the danger lies, because maybe Eddie likes Steve's suffering a little too much.
And maybe Steve will start to like it too.

Steve cannot stop thinking about Eddie Munson. He lingers, unspoken, around every conversation. Has done since October, Dustin’s obsession malforming like a tumour to spread through the soft tissue of Steve’s brain.
Diagnosis is pointing to terminal, considering Steve hasn’t had a single day that Munson hasn’t crossed his mind, flipping him off while skipping past the bimmer at a red light.
In any case, Steve thinks, as Eddie trips on thin air under the bell at Family Video, it’s almost definitely fatal.

Steve watches him, frozen; he feels kind of useless again, which is absurd, because Eddie’s staring at him like he absolutely and obviously needs him.

Summary
“I wish I could have had sex just once before I bit the dust.”
The tension in the air is thick, palpable, living up to every cliche Steve’s heard before. He has half a mind to pull out his pocket knife to see if he can really cut through it. Steve doesn’t dare break the moment, though, letting Eddie breath a few times before continuing on.
“It’s hard enough dying a loser, but a virgin? Talk about lame.” Eddie laughs, and it’s not real, it’s something broken and fake in the way it climbs out of his throat. “What’s worse, I haven’t even kissed anyone. Jesus Christ, what a sad legacy to leave behind. Practically Shakespearian levels of tragic.”
Eddie has on that sad, self-deprecating smile that pulls at Steve’s heartstrings every time he sees it. It’s too much before the end of the world, it’s too much for Steve who knows this is his last chance to be brave in a way he hasn’t had to be before. So he says the only thing that could possibly come to mind.
“Kiss me."

Their final fight against the Upside Down will happen in the morning, so Eddie admits a secret that needs to be said before the end of the world. What kind of monster would Steve be to not help him out?
