“What did the doctor say? I can’t remember.” His pain medicine was wearing off. He could feel it. That glowing hot iron pressed to his knee.
“Oh, we can look at your paperwork when we get home. I can’t remember the exact words.”
“No, no. Like —” he pressed his head against the glass of the window. His breath fogged it up. He wanted to wipe it away, make the glass clear again but he was too tired to lift his hand. “Is it bad?”
“Well,” He heard Ilya tap against the steering wheel. “Yeah, Shane. It’s not good.”

Ilya watches his fingers fiddle with it. “Hear what? Hear us sleep?” he scratches behind his own ear, helpfully. “I snore so loud?”
“No, Ilya, they can hear us not sleep,” Shane leans forward, searching Ilya’s face. Almost. “What we do before we sleep.”
And Shane knows he gets it, because his whole face lights up, and Shane isn’t really in the position to appreciate it fully because the context is just not allowing him to. And it makes him feel worse. “Ah, that!” Ilya is laughing, and he presses down on Shane’s neck more solidly, shaking him around a little, almost proud if Shane had to guess.
or, Shane's roommates can hear him and Ilya when they have sex, and it becomes a problem

‘I look forward to getting to know you more, husband-to-be.’ Ilya smirks, tongue wrapping around the last word with relish, a hand coming to trace the freckles dusted across his cheeks with a surprisingly delicate touch.
Shane smacks his hand away with a snort, tampering down the blush threatening to make itself known to instead snap out a frosty retort. ‘In your dreams.’
Except all Ilya, the Prince of Rozan, has to offer is a dark smile and wandering eyes. Shane can feel them burning through his clothes, his shoulders resisting the urge to curl inwards and shield himself from Ilya’s gaze.

“This game is sometimes cruel,” he heard himself say. “When we played against each other, I was the best I could be. But he is not dead. Summary

Omega Shane is is a traveling apothecary, who came to Winterhaven seeking knowledge of herbs and the hopes of temporary shelter from the winter to come. He's a man who has wandered for most of his life, fleeing a past of abuse, violence, and rejection. All because he refuses to placate Alphas with half-truths and lies, and instead always speaks his mind, especially when the lives of others are on the line because of foolish pride.
Sparks ignite between Alpha and Omega, as Ilya realizes Shane's wisdom can protect and improve his village's outdated customs and save the lives of his people and Shane realizes that Ilya might be the only Alpha who will hear and respect him, body and mind.
