Joel pulls her into a hug, and she goes, pliant and easy to guide, shoving her face into the crook of his neck as she lets out gut-wrenching sobs, cries into him, tears wetting his skin like some kind of brand. She lets him hold her as her body shakes violently from her sobs, as she hiccups and breathes fast and heavy against him. He holds her as she quiets down, fingers loosening on the collar of his jacket as she quietly whimpers before shivering. He holds her for what feels like forever, and in his heart, he knows he'd never let her go.

“What hurts, baby?” Joel asks, and she feels her lips tremble before she even says a word. She shakes her head, because she thinks if she opens her mouth, she’ll just sob, and Joel makes some noise of discontent. “Words, Ellie.”
“Can’t,” she mumbles, wiping at her eyes. She opens them and Joel’s already looking straight into her soul, searching for the answer she can’t give him. She shakily exhales and reaches out for the rag, moving his hand back up to her face. He sighs, deeply, but gently presses the fabric against her cheek once more. She sharply inhales and her eyes flutter shut again.

Summary
Steve’s still figuring Eddie out. Like how he'll wheedle and give Steve shit for an offhand remark or tone of voice. It’s not like Tommy, where there was always something darker looming behind his cocked brow or narrowed eyes. The wrong kind of look meant tipping the scales towards an inevitable violence.
With Eddie the wrong look will get cigarette smoke blown in Steve’s face. The wrong words will get teased and playfully flipped back in a way that makes it feel like Eddie’s gently humbling him. Like each time Steve’s face goes warm with embarrassment it’s another strike to the long-dead King Steve. It’s mostly harmless. It’s intriguing. It’s the type of game Steve wants to understand so he can play it back.

Summary
Eddie leans in, his face drawing closer to Steve’s. His eye catches the faint silver glint of Eddie’s rings where they rest against his skin. And for a split second, Steve’s mind short-circuits. He thinks Eddie is going to kiss him.
So why does he lean in, too?
Steve barely registers what he’s doing until his nose brushes the side of Eddie’s cheek, warm and slightly tacky from sweat. His skin tingles with the contact, the tension between them tightening like a drawn bowstring.
Then Eddie’s lips part—not to kiss, but to speak.
“Hey.” Eddie’s voice is temptingly husky as he tilts his head to whisper directly into Steve’s ear. The vibrations of his words send a shiver down Steve’s spine, and it takes everything in him not to react visibly. “After the set, what do you say we head back to our room?”
OR.
Eddie shows Steve how to loosen up on an underground rock club's dancefloor. There are better places to be stiff, after all.

Summary
