Ilya’s hand wraps around his bare wrist and squeezes. Shane barely stops himself from collapsing to his knees.
The pressure lights up every receptor of his touch-starved nervous system, wrenching a small, pained noise from the back of his throat. Every muted sensation comes flooding back so intensely that it almost hurts. He needs Ilya to hold him down until there’s nothing inside him but quiet. He wants to sink into him and disappear.
It takes Shane an entire beat to remember where they are. Fighting against the fog in his mind, he manages to drag his gaze up to meet Ilya’s.
There’s a slow-dawning horror and understanding on Ilya’s face.

Ilya watched as Shane followed his Mom outside. Shane had left with a parting glance at Ilya that was probably trying to tell him something, but Ilya couldn’t figure out what exactly. Was he supposed to stay put? Or should he go after Shane, just in case something went wrong after all?
He was about to get up, maybe just to check out of the window really quick that Shane was fine, but before he could move, he heard David clear his throat. Right, Shane’s Dad was still here, sitting opposite him and looking at him expectantly.

Cliff watched as he slid uncontrolled, his momentum carrying him into the boards ahead of them at full speed. His shoulder hit first, but then Cliff heard his helmet hit the boards with a deafening crack.
For a moment, the arena was deathly silent, as though the whole crowd was holding its breath. Cliff dropped to a crouch above Hollander’s body, still splayed out on the ice. There was blood streaming out of his nose. He wasn’t moving.

He was sort of expecting that, but to have the man staring down at him with unbelievable contempt, well, he’s not lying, it does sting.
One moment, he’s blasting Loki into a well-earned sense of modesty, and then, Steve Rogers is facing him with that condemning smile on his face, saying that “you’re all about style, aren’t you?”
To be fair, they’re both giving as good as they get, and then, Rogers is retorting that “I’ve known men worth ten of you with none of that”, and suddenly, time is freezing all around them.
