Summary
Caitlyn meets a time traveling Vi from the future, who she then learns is her future wife. When she later meets the present day Vi, calling her surprised would be an understatement. Her future wife was an enforcer. This Vi is a criminal. She’s rude, and gruff, and sharp-edged. And she doesn’t seem to like Caitlyn very much. Not that Caitlyn is feeling much warmer towards her either.
Did the future Vi get it wrong? Or is there something Caitlyn is missing? She doesn’t know how to reckon with this frustratingly obstinate Zaunite being the same Piltover enforcer who visited her from the future.

And if this had happened even a week ago, Vi wouldn’t have given the matter a second thought before knocking this girl’s lights out and running away with Powder. Wouldn’t have considered another option for longer than maybe two seconds—just enough to rub it in her new friend’s pretty face, right before leaving her to the whims of the woods—before all bets were off. Powder is her priority—always has been, and always will be—and now more than ever, she has a responsibility to uphold.
But—if Vi’s being honest, Caitlyn has proven herself to be an excellent shot. One who has kind of saved Vi’s ass twice in the last week since they’d met.
So maybe there’s a smidge of room left to readjust her priorities.
“That bite is two months old,” Vi says.
Six years into the cordyceps outbreak, and three weeks away from curing it, Vi and Powder run into a FEDRA enforcer.

Caitlyn scrolled on Instagram while she waited for Jayce to grab popcorn.
She sent a cat video to Viktor, liked a few posts about new jobs or house purchases, and was watching a video when a message request notification popped up.
Curious, though not burningly so since it was likely spam, Caitlyn watched the rest of the video before tapping over to the message.
Caitlyn blinked at her screen as she saw the handle.
@ViforViolence was one of Jayce’s gym acquaintances, and not one Caitlyn had ever met.
The thing that was confusing about the DM was that she'd only very recently followed Jayce back on Instagram.
He’d been thrilled earlier in the week when he’d gotten the notification.
It was a sign she was into him, he was sure.
Caitlyn opened the DM, expecting to see some vapid, “will you tell your hot friend I’m free on Saturday?” message, her thumb automatically moving to hover over the “delete” button.
Oh.
Caitlyn’s eyes widened and her thumb froze over the screen.
And then she moved it out of the way to get an unobstructed look at the message.

When Caitlyn is accepted to an art residency in New York City, she accepts immediately. It's everything she's ever wanted. It means being away from Vi for one year in a long distance relationship, but they can surely manage that. Except.. maybe they can't. A slow deterioration starts and all the bold, lively red starts to slip out of her life too. Her camera has always been better at speaking for her than she is, and perhaps she just has to let it speak.

“I always loved summer,” Caitlyn tells the young woman across from her, “because, in the summer, my parents and I made the trek out to our summer house in Zaun.”
Caitlyn smiles as memories washed over her like the gentle waves on the lake - sandy feet, the county fair, ice cream smeared on her nose, the warmth of the sunburn that came from days spent lying on the dock.
She looks out the window, watching the midday sun sparkle off a lake that was nearly untouched by the years and the memories.
“Miss?”
“Hmm?” Caitlyn says, turning toward the source of the gentle prompt. “Oh, I’m terribly sorry. I’m afraid I became lost in thought.”
The young woman nods kindly, and Caitlyn’s eyes sparkle as she continues, the expression seeming to smooth the lines on her face, fade the white from her hair. “I especially loved the summer after I turned seventeen. That was a special summer.”

A figure brushed past Vi, interrupting her thoughts and making her finally look up. The girl Sevika had just called was taller than almost anyone else in her class, and Vi couldn’t believe she hadn’t noticed her until now. As the girl walked away to the other side of the gymnasium, back turned to her, Vi took in the long legs and the curve of her ass, lingering there for a second more before lifting her eyes to the midnight blue ponytail swaying with the movement of her steps.
