There was silence as Eight stared, and Three stared back, and the two looked at each other. Comfortably. The two were nice colleagues, at some verdict opposed by every other agent; they all demanded- demanded that they just had to be friends, best friends, because they truly acted the part. Maybe they were right, maybe they were wrong, but work partners was communication enough for the likes of Eight- her trust was now high out of reach from anybody, by any means; although that much was irrelevant. That was unimportant.

Summary
The tension the following silence brings is so thick it’s almost suffocating, tightening your throat and igniting a bubbling feeling of anxiety deep in your chest. It stretches on, and Eights probably waiting for you to say something else- deflect it with a joke, remark that you’re just kidding, anything to lighten the deadweight of what you just said. The pattern of both you and her breathing seems louder than before, as if the two of you are struggling to get enough air in the atmosphere you created.
Even then, you say nothing.
”Three, that’s… Seriously, that’s not funny.”
”I’m not trying to be.”
In other words: Three gets hurt and Eight finds out. Certified hood classic of a trope

Summary
Three would like to make one thing clear: she did not instigate the fistfight. Never, in her 16 suspensions from Turf War, has she ever tried to attack another player with anything other than the weapon in her hands. A head tap here and there with the butt of her Splattershot when she was out of ink, sure, but she’s not the type to escalate into full-on brawling just because she’s feeling cornered.
All that to say, the scramble itself? Not her fault.
(The underlying reason why it devolved into fisticuffs in the first place is, admittedly, a different matter entirely.)

The word hangs in the air, and when they glance back at her, her expression is steady, though there’s something tentative in her posture. “I look forward to working with you,” she says simply.
No matter how many times someone calls them that, it never feels real. The weight of the title is something they’ll never grow used to. With a quiet sigh, they wave a hand dismissively. “Just call me Three.”
Her lips curve into the faintest smile, and she repeats it under her breath, like she’s testing it. “Okay, Three.”

Agent Eight's translation device broke. While Marina's fixing it, Three is still expected to teach Eight how to speak inkling and everything she knows about inkling society⸺even though neither of them can understand a single word out of the other's mouth. In order to help Eight⸺and by extension herself⸺she has to get creative. And her plan involves about a dozen chickens, and the epic highs and lows of race car driving.
