Realizing you're possibly - maybe - sort of Sweet On somebody you really shouldn't be is bad enough. When he's done lost his mind to an obsession about whose family heirloom is the more powerful weapon, it's just plain painful.
But, thankfully, sometimes knocking sense into somebody works when it's done literally.
(Or: puberty hit John Morris like a freight train, and Eric Lecarde desperately needed someone to kick his ass after that Time Rift business. These two things are separated by fewer degrees than one might think.)

So when Eva Stratt offers her the chance to make a difference in the fight against global cooling, it only takes her a moment to agree.
She didn’t mean to drag her old friend Ryland Grace into it though. At least being the sidekicks of the de-facto world dictator is a little more pleasant with someone familiar around.
An AU where Grace’s grad school friend Marissa is brought onto the Petrova Taskforce. More of an exploration of character dynamics and the need to hold onto what makes us human in the face of a crisis than dealing with the butterfly effect. Mostly book canon but I was inspired to add a few things from the movie too. Also featuring an extremely generous helping of artistic liberty since canon Marissa has very little characterization.

His laughter stops as quickly as it started. He looks at Sakura with cool amusement. 'Honesty is a rare thing from a Mage. Humility even more so.'
