Rocky wakes up in the Tau Ceti system, with his commander and science specialist dead. How's he supposed to save Earth?

For a whole year, Marissa has been preoccupied with the sun. Ever since she learned its luminosity was decreasing on that fateful Thursday, she’s become obsessed with addressing the issue the best she can while working at the Department of Energy sponsored Berkeley Lab in California. So when Eva Stratt offers her the chance to make a difference in the fight against global cooling, it only takes her a moment to agree.
She didn’t mean to drag her old friend Ryland Grace into it though. At least being the sidekicks of the de-facto world dictator is a little more pleasant with someone familiar around.
An AU where Grace’s grad school friend Marissa is brought onto the Petrova Taskforce. More of an exploration of character dynamics and the need to hold onto what makes us human in the face of a crisis than dealing with the butterfly effect. Mostly book canon but I was inspired to add a few things from the movie too. Also featuring an extremely generous helping of artistic liberty since canon Marissa has very little characterization.

His laughter stops as quickly as it started. He looks at Sakura with cool amusement. 'Honesty is a rare thing from a Mage. Humility even more so.'

Iskandar, King of Conquerors, is nothing if not punctual. He arrives precisely when he says he will, be it on a battlefield or to a banquet. Occasionally he arrives when no one expects him to, but that’s what his Gordius Wheel is for: if one cannot hear and feel him coming, it’s your own fault for being shocked.
So when he finds the phrase You may challenge me any time you wish, King of Conquerors running through his mind after the Holy Grail War ends, he’s very curious indeed.

“Uh—hey. Yeah. Hi,” Aloy stumbles in response, flustered. Suddenly everything she planned to say slips from her grasp and scatters before she can chase it. Slinging her forearm across her eyes like bracing against a gale of wind, she gathers a breath and tries to pull it together. “Sorry. Did I, ah, wake you?”
When preparations for Nemesis have Aloy frustrated, Talanah is there (in a sense) to help her blow off steam.
