    Shen Yuan has been transmigrated into the body of a nameless random in a wuxia universe and has yet to figure out which one...or at least that was the case until his terrible neighbors fished a baby out of the river.

    “Is that a baby?” Shen Yuan squawked before being hushed from every angle. A few of the men looked over their shoulders back towards the village and Shen Yuan abruptly understood the root of their concern.

    They didn’t want their wives to overhear.

    ‘Not good,’ Shen Yuan thought. They wouldn’t be worried about that if they weren’t planning to do something awful.

    “It’s a fish,” one of the older, burlier men who acted as the de facto leader of the river folk said as he fixed Shen Yuan with a glare. “Just a fish.”

    Or: that one where Shen Yuan is just a fisherman. Did you not hear him say that he was just a fisherman? Why does no one believe him when he says that?

    It wasn’t required to become cultivation partners with one’s soulmate, but it was strongly encouraged, to the point where it may as well have been a requirement. Though he was long past the age where one would show up, Shen Jiu still occasionally woke up and checked over his skin in a way that had once been routine. If one of those cursed marks were to suddenly appear, he would definitely cut it out rather than risk being encouraged to dual cultivate with some stranger just because they shared marks. Even worse if it was a man.

    But still, none appeared.

    Shen Jiu doesn’t have a soulmark.

    Neither does Yue Qingyuan.

    This is a good thing.
