Luckily, they were in a dim corner of the room by the bar — but as Viktor glanced around the room to see if anyone had noticed, he saw Mel Medarda turn towards the two of them with an amused and mildly surprised gleam in her eyes. And now she was politely extricating herself from a conversation with an investor to come over, golden jewelry jangling softly with each step. Oh God, she was walking over here.
"Good evening, gentlemen." Her eyes shone with mirth. Jayce, still heaving deep breaths and now sporting a serious blush on his cheeks, made a strangled sort of coughing noise. There was a “hey” lost in there somewhere.
Viktor panicked. Before Mel could continue speaking and likely verbally eviscerate him, he shot forward, wobbling unsteadily on his cane as he brought his mouth to hers, freshly slick from just seconds ago sticking his tongue down Jayce’s throat.

Three months after Kendall disappeared, Stewy received a postcard in the mail. It read 'Greetings from Norway!' and had one sentence on the back, along with his name, address, and postal code: 'This place is astoundingly glorious—so different without humans blighting its natural beauty—remember 2003 retreat?' Kendall had also scrawled his signature below, in his usual way with loping curlicues of the K and slanted, rushed Ls.
Norway, 2003. The only thing he remembered was the burning hatred he had for Logan at the time, how he kept, not as subtly as he learned to do later on, asking—practically begging—Kendall to drop Waystar, get out and do anything else. He’d gotten spectacularly fucked up in Norway, fought with Kendall, said a bunch of things he couldn’t remember, and never gone back.
He was nothing if not a broken record.

Instead, he ends up on his knees in a dressing room, which is definitely not how the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s stage manager is supposed to handle conflict resolution.
Three weeks until opening night. One impossible rivalry. And absolutely no way this ends well.

Summary
Shane had spent time—a lot of time, really—thinking about retirement. It came with the territory; on average, hockey players retired in their 30s, with a few outliers playing into their 40s. The really good ones got maybe three decades out of it all before putting the stick down and hanging the jersey up. In his mind, Shane liked to think he’d be one of them, playing till he hit forty-five, ending on some high note—the Centaurs winning their nth or so Cup, maybe—before fading, slowly, into the background.
It turned out it would all just end in a random game, with a random team, boom— all so definitively over that Shane was left falling, completely flailing, clueless about any next step.
