Cody has wanted to be a ballplayer since she knew how to hold a bat. But life in Rockford, IL in the inaugural season of the All-American Girls' Professional Baseball League isn't exactly what she expected. The uniforms are dresses, there are regular hair and makeup sessions, and she's required to wear heels every time she leaves the house. Cody spends most of her time with Siri and Quinn, infielders who rack up fines for wearing trousers practically every day.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is Obi-Wan Kenobi, the team's ace pitcher. Her lipstick is always flawless, her curls are always just so, and she never seems to break a sweat, even when she's working on a perfect game. She and Cody make a perfect battery on the field, but Kenobi hardly looks Cody's way off of it.
That all changes the day Cody takes a cleat to the face.

Summary
When Obi-Wan Kenobi was twelve, he was told he was too angry to ever be a Jedi. He wasn’t good enough.
Only weeks later, he offered up his life in exchange for hundreds of others and Qui-Gon Jinn found him worthy.
When Obi-Wan was thirteen, he chose the war-torn streets of Melida/Daan over the orders of Master Jinn, and he ceased being a padawan of the Jedi Order. He resolved the conflict there and then, unsure where else to go, sought out his family on Tatooine.
It was clear he couldn’t fit himself back into a life he was taken from as a small child. So, just shy of his fourteenth birthday, Ben Lars presented himself to the AgriCorps.
OR, the one where AgriCorps Specialist Ben Lars is recruited to assist in the settlement of the clone troopers after the war ends.

Life after war has much more politics than Gimli thought, and much less Legolas than he would like, but the latter he knows (or believes) he has to get used to. Or: Legolas leaps, occasionally stumbling, into a new age, while Gimli can't see the wood for the (green)leaf.
"How do your people court then?"
The question was not as abrupt as it would seem, firstly because the news that his brother was courting had clearly left Legolas in deep thought for a number of days, secondly because Legolas had long ago confessed his curiosity about the lives and customs of Gimli's kin, and thirdly because Legolas' grace was well-known to be in his light feet and not his manners.
However, Gimli saw no reason to let him have his own way entirely. "And by my people do you mean the Longbeards, or the Dwarves of Erebor, or the wandering mender that I now seem to be?"
"I meant," Legolas said, "wandering jesters."
