Summary
Amaya studied her, and Rayla had to fight the urge to fidget under her gaze. Noticing her discomfort, Amaya’s eyes softened. Rayla, She started, using her name sign. I don’t mean to pry, but are you sure you’re not—, she signed something Rayla hadn’t learned yet, but from the movement it was pretty easy to discern.
Her fingers spread at her abdomen as she brought the hand forward to mimic the expanding of the belly.
Pregnant?
Her heart dropped to her stomach.
“Oh, no, it’s not like that.”
But Amaya saw right through her. You don’t have to be strong alone. You can tell me.
Her words made her want to cry. She knew she’d promised herself she’d keep this a secret from everyone, but her parents already knew, so what was another person? Another person that she trusted to keep it a secret, another person she couldn’t lie to.
