    Summary

Louise wonders if all writers are extremely romantic, or if it’s just a quirk of the few she’s read. Of Jane Austen or Emily Bronte or Daphne Luckenbill. Though, maybe Austen or Bronte aren’t like that outside of their stories.

Daphne, though, definitely is. Louise should know. They’ve been exchanging unsigned correspondence (Louise’s request) for months on end, and the recent topic of love, Louise asking specifically about her and Silas, has been…illuminating. It’s become obvious that Daphne has an abundance of love, and an ease and bravery with which she gives it. Louise is trying to understand that ease, trying to look at it with something other than wistfulness, and with a fear that she physically cannot conquer.

Louise cannot imagine herself loving in the same way Daphne loves. No matter how wonderful Daphne makes that love sound, how painless she makes it seem.

OR, Through a series of letters from Daphne, Louise reflects on the nature of what kind of love she wants.

this is so well written, I want to be able to write like this (also, ik ik it's about Louise, but this is one of the best characterizations of Daphne I've read in a fic, damn Silas I want your wife)

    Summary

If one digs far enough behind a person's eyes, it is said, they can reach a person's brain, pulling out the hidden meanings behind all that person's actions with ease, but really, Silas thinks, if you dig far enough behind, with nothing of a surgeon's precision, you're a lot more likely to just hit something you weren't supposed to hit. It's not difficult at all, physically, to pull a person's eyes from their sockets, severing them from ever having a choice of their own. And it is easy enough, after that, Silas knows, to spin a web of truth from the severed optic nerve. If there is not a person attached to the other side, there is no one left to clarify if you've come to the most accurate conclusion, and then it's simply your word against their stolen one.

Or, Silas contemplates eyes, blame, and the act of persisting.

    Summary

She is kind, when he doesn't fight her. She gives him space when he doesn't try to avoid her. A goddess, she could take by force whatever she wished and he'd be powerless to stop her, but... she doesn't. Instead, she's wearing him down slowly, one step at a time. Like breaking a skittish, wild horse to accept the bridle. The thought should fill him with dread, but he can't help but feel pathetically thankful instead.

Seven years is a long time to spend imprisoned, even in paradise. A long time to exist on the whims of another. A long time for a mortal to live enveloped in divine power. How did Odysseus survive?
