“Mel.” Frank sounds tense and serious. She doesn’t like when he’s tense and serious, especially not when she thinks that it might be because of her - why else would he not reply to her picture? “What are we doing?”
“We’re - we’re trading pictures, Frank, like we said we would -”
“Yeah, I know, but… are you seriously gonna tell me that you’re not sending ones where you look hot on purpose?”
The air leaves her lungs in a large, violent breath. She feels like she’s been caught with her hand in the cookie jar. Or like she’s been caught leaving secret, encoded messages on a post-it note inside the lid of the cookie jar without telling anyone the post-it note or even the cookie jar itself is there. She wanted to take cute pictures to send to him this week in the hopes that he would like them, but she didn’t know that he noticed how hard she was working for it, didn’t realize that he realized - oh, God, is her new push-up bra that obvious?
“I’m not - I didn’t - um -”
“Are you alone right now?”
“Yeah, I’m alone.”
Frank sighs on the other end of the line, and she waits patiently for it all to come crashing down.
“What are you wearing?”

It was nice that he was glad to be back. She was so glad that he was. Because she liked him, despite the rumors. She liked his - their - stupid jokes. And she knew, already, that she would take just about any orders he gave her, whether they were signed as Dr. Langdon or otherwise. She trusted him. She had only known him for fifteen hours, if you ignored the 10-month gap, and she still trusted him. She didn’t trust a lot of people.
So she took ten minutes. And when she went out onto the floor eleven minutes later, feeling pressure at the back of her head, part of her wished it was still his hand.

Summary
Jayce Talis is nothin if not pigheaded. He also has a hero complex the size of the moon. This is why he is endlessly frustrated by Viktor - strong, independent, just-as-stubborn Viktor - who refuses his help every step of the way. What starts as a regular argument spirals into something more that neither of them are entirely sure what to make of.
Aka. Jayce's silly notions about damsels in distress and being a gentleman don't work as well on Viktor

Summary
Viktor isn’t dense. Despite his quiet disposition, he’s not particularly socially inept. He may be one leg down and one foot in the grave, but he’s still not blind either. He knows when eyes trail him and he knows when they’re filled with pity or disgust. But he knows when they’re filled with heat and want, too. He sees such looks directed between lovers and those who covet that which they can’t have, but every once in a while he notices a look or two like that shot in his direction. It’s flattering every time it happens but he always chooses to ignore them – it’s not like any of them can offer him what he really wants.
What starts off as Viktor reluctantly attending one of the Council's lavish parties, ends rather interestingly when Jayce spends the night over in Viktor's apartment.
