Summary
After returning from hell, Vergil makes a quiet, clumsy effort to be the father he never was. It’s not easy because too much time has been lost, and words don’t come naturally to him. But he tries. Luckily (or unluckily), Dante—his degenerate little brother—is surprisingly good at playing peacekeeper. And to his surprise, Nero doesn't shut the door on him.
Nero had grown up thinking he was an orphan, unwanted and forgotten. Meeting Dante had sparked questions he was too afraid to ask. But atop the Qliphoth, his world shattered: the reckless uncle he'd grown to tolerate was his uncle for real, and the cold, infuriating V—Vergil—was his father.
Now Vergil has a place of his own (far away from Dante’s chaos), and when he invites Nero to visit, the answer is yes. Dante, of course, shows up anyway. What follows is a messy, imperfect attempt to build something they never had: a family.
Or: Nero gets a fever and Vergil's dormant parental instincts come to life.

“…She went looking for me?”
Dante pauses at that, hand stilling on the sword. He looks up, meeting Vergil’s eyes blankly. It’s hard to remember what she looks like sometimes, but he can see it now in the reflection of himself that stares back through his brother’s pale blue eyes.
“She died looking for you.”

Summary
An awfully vague mission description causes Nero and Dante to be gravely underprepared for a fight. Instead of facing off against some weak lesser demons, they are greeted by a strange type of Angelo that even Dante wasn't sure existed. When the demon outsmarts them, Nero is prepared to protect Dante at any cost. Even if the cost is his own life. He's not exactly thrilled when Vergil is the one to show up at the last second to turn the tide and allow them to escape.

Or: Nero takes the bullet for Dante and Vergil saves the day and finally tries to be a good father - with mild success.
